Location
Göttingen is located in the heart of Germany, in the Federal State of Lower Saxony.
Description
Georg-August University of Goettingen was founded in 1737 and is one of the most known universities in Germany. Goettingen is linked with over 40 Nobel Prize winners who researched and lived here during their times. The high standard of research and research-based teaching provides continuing inspiration to expanding the University's excellence as it faces the challenges confronting universities in the 21st century. Among the larger faculties you find Law, Medicin, Biology, History and Social Sciences. The university is a member of the Coimbra network.
Subject area restrictions
All fields are open except Human Medicine, Dental Medicine, Mathematics and Informatics.

Most courses in English are offered at a master's level as the university offers 50 master's programs in English, but please check for courses taught in English at the bachelor level as well.

Students have to take at least 60% of their workload from the faculty of the receiving institution. The rest of their workload can be made up of courses from different faculties. This decision will be subject to the capacities of the faculties.

Full time studies is equivalent to approximately 12 SWS (Studienwochenstunde) within Humanities and 18 SWS within Natural Sciences.

Bachelor level: German (some modules are available in English, depending on faculty, subject) 
Master level: German and/or English 
General language requirements
It is recommended to have at least a language level of B1/B2 in German and in some cases a B1/ B2 level in English. The requirements differ depending on faculty (or subject). Please check, if proof is needed. More information is found here

Fees
You need to pay a semester fee amounting to 340,- € per semester. This amount includes the semester ticket by means of which you can travel for free in Lower Saxony. The bus ticket allows students to travel for free with the city buses in Göttingen.
Insurance
For European citizens, it is important to bring the European Health Insurance Card which you can order from Försäkringskassan.
Students are covered through the Swedish State's Insurance "Student UT" handled by Kammarkollegiet.
