Location
The city of Eugene, with approximately 200,000 inhabitants, is located about an hour's drive from the sea and an impressive coast. The surroundings offer excellent opportunities for sports and outdoor activities of all kinds, including skiing since the city is located in a valley surrounded by mountains. In Eugene, there are also good opportunities for various cultural events and the town has a safe and relaxed atmosphere. In addition to housing costs, Eugene is a relatively cheap city to live in, partly because food and other goods are exempt from VAT in Oregon. The slightly larger city of Portland is located about 100 miles north of Eugene and the climate is mild with quite a lot of precipitation.

Students may not know if they are able to secure a room in the residence halls until after the end of the term prior to their enrollment at the UO (after fall term for winter enrollment, or after winter-term for spring enrollment). We advise winter and spring admits to seek off-campus housing.

Students may enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the DS-2019 program start date; not earlier. Students should carry their passport and visa, DS-2019, and letter of admission.
